What Are They?

Good Thinks [Gud Thingks] a child-like phrase which describes:

  • Little sparks that have the potential to become big ideas
  • Words/phrases
  • Moments of clarity
  • Images
  • Doodles
  • Any thoughts that are remotely fabulous that you want to jot down to explore at a later time

Our youngest daughter coined the term Good Thinks when I asked her one day what she was doing, looking pensive and far-off in thought. She replied that she was “busy having Good Thinks” and it’s stuck as a phrase in our house since that day! She also created other lovely words which we continue to use: beauvely (pronounced boov-lee) is a combination of beautiful and lovely that she used to describe everything that was pretty or attractive to look at. We also went through an awful lot of farkly gitter – sparkly glitter – in our art supplies!

I included Good Thinks in the Planner because it’s important to catch those fleeting ideas. You never know if they will be the magical ones to develop further. The downside to having Good Thinks is that they often pop up when you least expect them, which is an absolute pooper if you don’t note it down or record it straight away. I can lose a cheeky Good Think walking from my office to the kitchen if I’m not careful and scribble it down somewhere. They’re that pesky to keep a hold of.

Additionally, we should always remember to retain a child-like element of wonder and fun in our creative process. It really does help to keep the magic alive.
